Alonte (VI), September 2023. Athena – leader in the high performance motorcycle, scooter and moped spare parts market for 50 years – presents the brand new Cylinder Kit for Aprilia RS 250 and Suzuki RGV 250 .
The long experience acquired in the world of Racing has allowed the Athena R&D department to create a unique product on the market: a Standard Bore cylinder kit as a replacement for the original Aprilia-Suzuki, perfectly compliant with OEM specifications and installable without making changes to the engine crankcases of the motorbike.
The kit consists of an aluminum cylinder, a flat head piston and all the specific gaskets to ensure optimal sealing and therefore obtain maximum performance.
The cylinder, made of aluminum alloy, is ready to be installed. The kit includes the mixer oil inlet fitting and the brass bushing for the exhaust valve shaft, both already pre-assembled.
The cylinder liner is subjected to a special galvanic treatment and coated with a Motor-Nicksil coating developed by the Athena R&D department , to obtain better piston smoothness, reduced friction and less wear of the segments.
To overcome the corrosion problem to which the original Aprilia-Suzuki sleeve was subject, Athena technicians have created a new brass sleeve that can be screwed directly into the cylinder: the seats of the cylinder head studs have also been redesigned and, unlike the original, they do not they are more communicating with the water passages of the cylinder.
Finally, particular care was taken in the internal radius of the exhaust crosspiece , obtained through CNC machining to avoid the risk of excessive expansion which could damage the piston.
The flat head piston kit was developed specifically for the high performance of which this cylinder kit is capable, paying particular attention to the composition of the aluminum alloy so as to reduce the coupling tolerances between piston and cylinder to a minimum.
The lightened piston skirt and the molybdenum disulphide coating ensure an effective reduction in friction, improving smoothness and durability: furthermore, the CNC machined window on the intake side is designed to maximize lubrication of the shims and the foot roller cage of connecting rod.
The biconical type pin is made of aeronautical steel alloy with nitriding treatment while the segments included are Made in Japan and made of special steel with chromium nitride coating, to guarantee high hardness and low friction.
The gasket series included in the kit includes all the gaskets necessary for installing the cylinder kit and is perfectly compatible with the original Aprilia-Suzuki components.
The materials used and the manufacturing technologies make the gaskets particularly resistant to oils, fuels, mixes of water with antifreeze and anti-corrosion: in particular, the head gasket and the cylinder base gasket have been redesigned using an innovative reinforced graphite material , for high adaptability to worktops and uniform sealing over the entire surface.
The seal is further improved thanks to the application of silicone creasing with high-precision screen printing machines and a special finishing surface treatment.
